2008 Neosho District Fall Camporee

Grand River Raft Race

 

Welcome Scouts and Scouters, to another fun filled Camporee.  This year we will be Rafting down the Grand River for approximately 9 miles.  First leg on Friday night will be about 2-3 miles, ending at a site that has opened especially for us.  Then on the second day (Saturday) we will continue on to Fort Gibson.  Plans for a Raft are in this pamphlet, but this is only suggested plans, how you make your raft is up to you.  No motorized type of propulsion will be allowed, any other types of propulsion can be used (sail, paddlewheel, and paddles).

 

All Scouts must be swim qualified to go, responsibility of Scoutmaster to ensure Scouts are.  Equipment that must be on each raft is listed below.

Items to be carried on each Raft:

Heavy duty rope for towing

Friday nights meal and Saturday breakfast

Ice chest

Sleeping Bags

Tents

Extra change of clothing

(1) Life vest per scout, must be worn while on River

First aid kit

Water-proof bag

Water

All other items you will need at Fort Gibson

 

Things to be incorporated into Raft plans:

Cleat at each corner of Raft to tie to safety boat or to dock with

Floatation device attached to rope

Rudder

Some type of tie-downs to tie equipment to raft
